International Environment Committee Webinar: Animal-Vehicle Collision Mitigation Infrastructure (REGISTRATION IS CLOSED)
International Environment Committee Webinar: Animal-Vehicle Collision Mitigation Infrastructure Date: May 8, 2026 CE Credits: 1 CE Start Time: 12:30pm Pacific / 1:30pm Mountain / 2:30pm Central / 3:30pm Eastern No tuition fee, but registration is required. Description: Animal-vehicle collision mitigation infrastructure physically separate wildlife from traffic and guides them to safe crossing locations such as watercourse crossings and wildlife underpasses/overpasses. The Alberta Wildlife Watch Program delivers projects to improve driver safety and minimize the impacts of highways on wildlife populations while providing safe passing opportunities. As part of its work mitigating animal-vehicle collisions (AVC), the Government of Alberta is also working on several highway infrastructure projects including wildlife overpasses, underpasses and fencing to help safely keep animals off highways. This webinar will highlight the Wildlife Overpass on the TransCanada Highway near the Banff National Park boundary and other projects and techniques currently underway by the Government of Alberta. SPEAKER: Stephen Legaree, P.Biol. is the Director of Environmental Regulation with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors. Mr. Legaree is the Program Manager for Alberta Wildlife Watch, a provincial animal-vehicle collision safety program dedicated to improving road safety. This program improves driver safety and mitigates the impacts highways have on wildlife. Under Mr. Legaree’s leadership the program has implemented projects to not only improve motorist safety but also build safe crossing opportunities for wildlife. Moderator:
