Course Description: 901 Engineering Plan Development & Application
INSTRUCTOR:
Laura Henry Slye brings more than 40 years of experience delivering complex capital projects across civil engineering, land surveying, transportation, and right‑of‑way. Her career spans both technical and leadership roles, supported by degrees in Civil Engineering and Communications. She began her professional journey in Anchorage, Alaska, working as a cartographer and mapmaker before earning her Civil Engineering degree in 1984. Since then, she has worked extensively in aerial and land surveying, roadway design, construction inspection, land descriptions, negotiations, and right‑of‑way acquisition in both the private and public sectors.
Laura also turns technical training into an unforgettable experience. Her hands‑on, interactive style transforms complex engineering concepts into practical skills that students can apply immediately and continue to use throughout their careers. She brings the right‑of‑way profession to life with humor, history, and practical insight, making even dense topics accessible and engaging. Finally, Laura was honored at the 2026 IRWA conference as a finalist for the Instructor of the Year.
