Course Description:
This introductory-level course covers the basic principles of Project Management, guiding participants through:
• Application of Concepts – including Project Management methodologies, industry standards, quality management practices, and risk management identification and intervention.
• Project Phases – identifying and discussing the five project management phases.
• Processes – understanding processes from the beginning of a project to closure.
Target Audience
This course is designed for project managers (PMs), appraisers, acquisition agents, relocation specialists, engineers, surveyors, and individuals involved in right of way (ROW) projects for public agencies, utilities, and private industries.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
• Define the project management phases and methods.
• Understand the interests, similarities and differences among:
o project management requirements,
o PM Team Management,
o public agency/client, and stakeholders.
• Apply project management concepts, identify and avoid common mistakes/misunderstandings.
CREDENTIALING:
This course may be applied toward 16 hours of recertification toward of any of IRWA’s credentials and is a requirement for the IRWA’s upcoming R/W-PM certification.
INSTRUCTOR:
Janet Walker, SR/WA, BGS, MA-IS (AE) is a CLIMB-certified IRWA Instructor. Janet has 21 years of experience in oil and gas industry with the National Energy Board (now Canadian Energy Regulator) and private industry. She has experience negotiating complex agreements with landowners, engaging with communities, developing consultation, and hearing packages, participating in regulatory hearings, and managing projects. Janet has a master’s degree with a Major in Adult Education.
